Toyota Woven City, located in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture near Mount Fuji, Japan, is a pioneering smart city launched by Toyota Motor Corporation and Woven by Toyota, Inc. It was first unveiled in 2020 as a real-world test course for next-generation mobility, sustainability, and urban living innovations, marking Toyota’s transformation into a mobility company. 

Spanning approximately 50,000 square metres on the former Higashi-Fuji Plant site, Woven City integrates residential, commercial, research, and experimental spaces designed through careful urban planning that blends Japanese tradition with modern technology. The city hosts early residents, including Toyota employees and partners who take part in co-creation and innovation activities. It incorporates buildings constructed with carbon-sequestering wood, photovoltaic rooftops, and robotic fabrication technologies, blending nature and cutting-edge design in sustainable neighbourhoods.

Environmental & Nature

Woven City emphasises environmental stewardship with carbon-sequestering building materials, renewable energy, including solar power, and designs that promote walkability and green spaces. It achieved Japan’s first LEED for Communities Platinum certification, reflecting leadership in energy efficiency, waste reduction, and ecosystem preservation.

Smart City

The city acts as a living laboratory for autonomous vehicles, robotics, AI, and connected infrastructure. It features sensor-based AI smart homes capable of delivering services such as automatic grocery deliveries, laundry pick-up, and intelligent waste management. It leverages Toyota’s expertise in manufacturing and Woven by Toyota’s software capabilities to develop and test mobility and smart city solutions in a real environment.

Human-Centric

Designed to enhance well-being and safety, the city integrates communal spaces, parks, and health-focused urban design. It fosters collaboration among residents, researchers, and businesses to improve the quality of life and promote social inclusion through shared innovation, cultural respect, and tailored living environments.
