Tatu City is a flagship 5,000-acre mixed-use Special Economic Zone (SEZ) located approximately 20 kilometres north of Nairobi’s Central Business District in Kenya. Gazetted as a project of national importance, it represents Kenya’s most ambitious private sector urban development aligned with the government’s Vision 2030 blueprint. The city supports a live-work-play environment designed to alleviate Nairobi’s congestion challenges while promoting sustainable urban growth.

Tatu City integrates residential, commercial, educational, and industrial zones alongside green spaces and social infrastructure. The development includes schools, medical clinics, retail districts, nature parks, and sports and entertainment complexes. Designed to accommodate over 250,000 residents and tens of thousands of daily visitors, the city balances urban density with significant green preservation, including forests and coffee farms that maintain regional heritage.

Environmental & Nature

The city’s master plan allocates 30% of land to green spaces and incorporates water conservation, renewable energy, waste management programmes, and sustainable transport planning. These initiatives contribute to reducing the environmental footprint and enhancing urban climate resilience in line with national green development policies.

Smart City

Tatu City integrates smart infrastructure such as high-speed broadband, smart energy grids, intelligent transport systems, and digital civic engagement platforms. The city supports data centres and business process outsourcing hubs, positioning it as a regional technological and innovation hub embracing IoT and automation for efficient urban management.

Human-Centric

Human-centred design underpins walkability, accessibility, and mixed-income housing. The urban environment promotes social interaction through parks, recreational venues, educational institutions, and vibrant public spaces. By decentralising Nairobi’s urban activity, Tatu City nurtures community cohesion and quality of life.
