SINO-SINGAPORE GUANGZHOU KNOWLEDGE CITY
GUANGZHOU HUANGPU DISTRICT
China
Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (SSGKC) is a flagship bilateral cooperation project between China and Singapore, located in Guangzhou’s Huangpu District. Established in 2010 as a state-level initiative, it represents a partnership between the Guangzhou Development District and Singapore’s CapitaLand, designed to transform the region from a manufacturing base into a knowledge-based economy hub serving the Pearl River Delta and Greater Bay Area.
Covering 123 square kilometres, 60 square kilometres are designed for development. SSGKC is planned to accommodate over 500,000 residents and is organised into distinct industry clusters focused on next-generation ICT, biotechnology, new energy, and artificial intelligence. The development features a comprehensive infrastructure with 50% of land dedicated to greenery and natural preservation, creating a balanced “city within a city” with independent utilities and systems.
Future Cities criteria compliance
Environmental & Nature
Certified as a National Three-Star Green Eco-City, SSGKC adopts the “Sponge City” concept for stormwater management and flood prevention. Mandatory green building standards, district cooling systems, renewable energy integration, and priority for public transit reduce carbon emissions whilst preserving ecological buffers across half the city’s terrain.
Smart City
SSGKC integrates smart city solutions, including high-speed fibre networks, city-wide sensor grids, and intelligent transport systems supporting autonomous vehicles. Digital platforms manage utilities, traffic, and e-government services, whilst the China-Singapore Smart Park and IP protection hub foster innovation and technology development.
Human-Centric
Designed to attract global talent, SSGKC replicates Singapore’s “Neighbourhood Centre” model, ensuring essential services, such as healthcare, schools, and shops, are within 1km of homes. The city hosts world-class research institutions, including the Sino-Singapore International Joint Research Institute with NTU, and features international hospitals, vibrant public spaces, and amenities supporting a high quality of life and social cohesion.
