Proposed Participant

The Rotterdam Makers District is an innovative urban ecosystem transforming Rotterdam’s former port areas into a vibrant hub for technology, sustainability, and economic growth. Anchored by the RDM Rotterdam campus and the Merwe-Vierhavens (M4H) area, this district integrates research, sustainable entrepreneurship, urban regeneration, and social innovation. The Makers District embodies a hybrid urban fabric that honours its industrial heritage while fostering a circular, creative, and participatory future for the city.

The district rehabilitates disused port warehouses and industrial structures, converting them into mixed-use spaces including start-up incubators, container studios, experimental greenhouses, and co-working facilities. It is a thriving community where sustainable businesses flourish in renewable energy, smart logistics, urban agriculture, and circular manufacturing. The collaborative environment stimulates innovation by bringing together technology and culture, production and participation, inviting dialogue between communities and innovative projects.
