Proposed Participant

Praille-Acacias-Vernets (PAV) is one of the largest and most ambitious urban regeneration projects in Europe, transforming a historically industrial zone between Geneva, Carouge, and Lancy into a vibrant, mixed-use urban district. The project aims to create a carbon-neutral, sustainable, and inclusive community by 2050, integrating housing, commercial activities, green spaces, and urban logistics.

The PAV area, spanning multiple municipalities, is being redeveloped based on a comprehensive master plan that restructures existing industrial land and underused open spaces into new neighbourhoods. The plan includes emblematic public spaces, pedestrian-friendly boulevards, green corridors (“Green Cross”), pocket parks connected by a ring road, and activation of existing cultural heritage sites. The project preserves natural waterways and improves connectivity to the city centre with infrastructure supporting all types of non-motorised transport.

Future Cities criteria compliance

Environmental & Nature

Designed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, PAV embeds green infrastructure such as restored river corridors, tree-lined streets, and sustainable construction practices. Efforts include biodiversity conservation, resource-efficient logistics, and promoting soft mobility to minimise carbon footprint.

Smart City

PAV incorporates smart city principles through digital platforms that optimise energy use, transport, and waste management. Close cooperation between public and private sectors, supported by innovative trials, fosters an ecosystem for sustainable urban living in the Greater Geneva area.

Human-Centric

The urban design prioritises walkability, accessibility, and social inclusivity with shared public spaces fostering community engagement. Initiatives like “Art in PAV” revitalise industrial heritage and cultural identity, while framed public zones encourage interaction, recreation, and inclusive urban life.
