NEOM

TABUK PROVINCE

Saudi Arabia

Proposed Participant

NEOM is a highly ambitious, futuristic mega-project, launched as a core component of Saudi Vision 2030 to diversify the economy. Envisioned as a cognitive, economic, and tourism hub, NEOM is being built from the ground up to embody a new model of urban living focused on sustainability, technology, and liveability.

Located in the Tabuk Province of northwest of Saudi Arabia, spanning over 26,500 sq. km across a diverse landscape of Red Sea coastline, mountains, and deserts, NEOM is one of the most ambitious projects in the world. It is not a single city but a region of interconnected, specialized developments like The Line, Trojena, Oxagon and Sindalah. It is being designed to operate independently, powered by 100% renewable energy, and will serve as a beacon for sustainable development and advanced technology on a global scale.

Future Cities criteria compliance

Environmental & Nature

It is committed to a net-zero carbon footprint, running entirely on 100% renewable energy (solar, wind, and green hydrogen). Environmental commitments include protecting 95% of the land, aiming for net-positive biodiversity, and implementing a circular economy to eliminate waste. Water supply will be circular with zero liquid discharge.

Smart City

NEOM is a cognitive city powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics, managing all urban functions, utilities, and personalized services across its regions, including the industrial hub Oxagon and the mountain destination Trojena. Key features include AI-driven security, digital twin simulations, and hyper-connectivity (5G+). THE LINE relies on this integrated technology for all amenities to be within a five-minute walk, supported by a high-speed, subterranean public transport system.

Human-Centric

The design eliminates cars and roads in areas like THE LINE, focusing on enhanced well-being and convenience. Residents have two-minute access to nature and a regulated microclimate. Amenities are world-class and vertically stacked (schools, hospitals, stadiums) within the linear structure, minimizing commute times and maximizing time for leisure.
