Ciudad Verde is a large-scale mixed-income housing and urban development project situated in Soacha, near Bogotá, Colombia. It was initiated in 2007 and is designed as a socially inclusive macro-project to counteract informal settlements and urban sprawl. The development addresses the housing deficit while fostering an organized, vibrant, and sustainable urban environment.

Spanning approximately 328 hectares, Ciudad Verde integrates diverse residential typologies, public amenities including schools, libraries, healthcare centres, and commercial zones. The community includes extensive green spaces, parks, and “cerros” (hill areas) preserved for environmental and recreational purposes. Social infrastructure focuses on education, public safety, and health, supporting over 100,000 residents. The urban design offers connectivity to Bogotá with bus rapid transit and road networks, enhancing integration with the metropolitan region.

Environmental & Nature

The project emphasises green urban development through preservation of natural landscapes, extensive parks, water management via the Tibanica Creek, and sustainable building practices. Emphasis on social sustainability highlights community participation and equitable access to resources, mitigating environmental impacts.

Ciudad Verde incorporates modern utility and communication infrastructure, leveraging digital platforms for public management and service delivery. Transport connectivity improvements include environmentally friendly transit options, facilitating mobility, and reducing emissions in the region.

Human-Centric

Ciudad Verde promotes social inclusion and quality of life by combining mixed-income housing, accessible community services, public cultural spaces, and educational opportunities. Community-driven initiatives and social infrastructure foster cohesion, safety, and well-being.
