BOGOTA GREEN CORRIDOR

BOGOTA

Colombia

Proposed Participant

Bogotá is currently undertaking two of the most ambitious urban transformation projects in its recent history: the “Corredores Verdes” (Green Corridors) and the “Desarrollo Orientado al Transporte” (Transit-Oriented Development – TOD) associated with its First Metro Line (PLMB). These projects are not merely isolated infrastructure works; they represent a fundamental shift in the city’s planning philosophy. This initiative, supported by the Bogotá Mayor’s Office, is designed to integrate clean mobility, expand green spaces, and prioritize human-centric urban design in one of the city’s busiest transport corridors.

Bogotá’s “Corredor Verde” project is a major urban renewal plan, starting with the 22km transformation of the Carrera Séptima. Simultaneously, the new Metro line is being built as a “DOTS” (Transit-Oriented Development) project, using stations as hubs to revitalize neighborhoods and create denser, mixed-use communities. The project involves extensive redesign of streetscapes to create safe, green, and accessible walkways and cycling infrastructure, alongside electrification of bus fleets supported by the adjacent Metro system in Usme and along the NQS corridor.

Environmental & Nature

The corridor uses ecological urban design, adding trees, permeable areas, and sustainable drainage to reduce flooding and heat. By prioritizing zero-emission transport, electric buses, and active mobility, it cuts carbon emissions. The Green Corridor and Metro TOD projects support Bogotá’s Climate Action Plan by combining mobility, green space, and resilience.

Smart City

Bogotá’s Green Corridor integrates directly with Metro Line 1 and the Usme/NQS Metro TOD, enabling seamless multimodal mobility.

The corridor adds modern platforms, bike stations, electric bus stops, and smart, sustainable materials. These upgrades align with the city’s broader mobility agenda, including fleet electrification and expanded multimodal networks.

Human-Centric

The project prioritizes people with wide sidewalks, plazas, cycle lanes, and shaded public spaces that enhance comfort and safety. Extensive community participation shaped the design, ensuring local needs are met. The Metro TOD strengthens this approach by creating walkable, mixed-use areas that improve accessibility, equity, and daily urban life.
