ASIA NEW BAY AREA
KAOHSIUNG
Taiwan
Asia New Bay Area (ANBA) is a transformative waterfront urban development located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Initiated in 2011, ANBA is a flagship project for Kaohsiung’s transition from an industrial port city to a diversified, modern metropolis emphasizing culture, technology, tourism, and sustainability. The district covers more than 600 hectares and integrates important public facilities such as the Kaohsiung Music Centre, Port Cruise Terminal, Main Public Library, and Exhibition Centre. Developed as part of Kaohsiung City’s urban renewal strategy, the Asia New Bay Area redevelops former industrial lands into a vibrant mixed-use district connecting the harbour with downtown Kaohsiung. The project is supported by both central and local governments with investments exceeding NT$130 billion and focuses on promoting cultural industries, technology parks, green infrastructure, and international tourism.
ANBA includes signature infrastructural elements like the Circular Light Rail, cultural venues (music centre, library), convention centres, and port cruise terminal, anchoring a new urban hub with shopping, entertainment, and business clusters. The development incorporates social housing projects aimed at fostering a live-work balance and providing inclusivity for both tech professionals and disadvantaged groups.
